Introductions

My name is Tucker Johnson and I will be the instructor for this online experience. I am very happy that you will be taking this online course, Account Management for Project Managers. Welcome! Please allow me to introduce myself and this course.

I have been working in the language services industry for about 15 years now. Most of my background is in project management and large account management and I have worked primarily on the vendor side for LSPs of different sizes, including Welocalize, Glyph Language Services, and Moravia, where I set up and developed large accounts for many large companies in Seattle, Silicon Valley, and around the world.

Most recently, I am the co-founder and managing director of Nimdzi Insights, a research and consulting company focusing strongly on localization and other aspects of global business. In the 2.5 years since I founded this company with my partner, Renato Beninatto, we have grown into an established authority in the language services industry.

When we started, it was just me and Renato, and now we have 20 team members operating in 8 countries, and we work with some of the biggest brands in the world. Additionally, Renato and I co-authored The General Theory of the Translation Company, a book that we published to serve as a much-needed primer for the business aspects of the localization industry.

I attribute Nimdzi’s success and rapid growth first and foremost to having a great team that I work with. A key to our success has been adopting some of the core principles of project management, sales, account management, and business communication skills that we are going to be talking about during this course. This course stays away from theory and philosophy and focuses on practical business best-practices.

Everything we are going to discuss is taken directly from my experience in the industry as a project manager, account manager, marketer, salesperson, managing director, and founder of a successful (so far!) company. I really enjoy teaching this class because it allows me to share my experience. I’m hoping that you can learn from some of my mistakes so that you don’t have to learn everything the hard way like I did!

About This Course

Much of this content is taken from a course that I have developed for the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, where I teach a yearly course for their TRLM Graduate program. This year (2020), my course has coincided with the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, and so I was presented with the opportunity to convert the material to an online learning format.

I also have presented these sessions directly to clients who were in need of a customized learning experience for their teams. Setting up specialized training allows me to customize the course content for each company’s specific needs. I love doing multiple-day in-person workshops with clients because it allows us to go through practical examples and engage in interactive exercises.

In order to adapt to the online, self-directed format, some content has been modified, and other content has been removed to allow for time. In total there are ~7 hours of lectures and videos. Depending on how deep each learner dives into the materials provided, the total time to complete this workshop is expected to be between 12-16 hours.

This course includes seven separate sections. Each section includes a lecture ranging from 30-60 minutes, followed by a self-guided comprehension check.

  • Session 1 – Intro to Account Management – included
  • Session 2 – Customer Profiling – included
  • Session 3 – The QBR Process – included
  • Session 4 – Universal Soft Skills (Nimdzi Partners Only)
  • Session 5 – Manage your Stakeholders (Nimdzi Partners Only)
  • Session 6 – Manage your Team (Nimdzi Partners Only)
  • Session 7 – Manage Yourself (Nimdzi Partners Only)

Note: You have full access to the first three units of this course. Current Nimdzi Partners have access to the full course load, including our four-part series on Soft Skills for Project Managers.

If you find this content interesting and are interested in continuing your learning or setting up a more personalized training experience for you or your team, you can reach out to me or my team to set something up!

Certificate of Completion

When you finalize the course (the seven sessions), you will receive a certificate of completion! In order to do so and progress from one lesson to the next, you will need to get at least 80% of your quiz replies right. Best of luck!

Personalized Office Hours

As I mentioned already, meeting and interacting with clients and students who are taking this course is the best part of teaching this workshop. I am available to Nimdzi Partners, as always, via personal office hours. All NImdzi Partners have unlimited consultant hours through our online Office Hours booking platform where they can schedule time on my calendar (or with any Nimdzi Team Member) to discuss this course, or anything else you have on your mind, is as simple as clicking a button!

FYI: Nimdzi Partners can use Office Hours for much more than just online learning. Having unlimited consultant hours allows us to build strong relationships with our clients about the specific challenges they are facing so that we can help them define solutions to their specific challenges.

Let's get started!

Now that we have introduced ourselves, let's get started, shall we? This course consists of seven (7) sessions. Each session will contain a lecture (roughly between 30-60 minutes), followed by a quick comprehension check for you to self-evaluate your learning.

You can take the course at your own pace. When returning, make sure to log-in with the same email that you used when you started so that your completed answers are saved.
