Lessons in Localization: KAYAK

The Nimdzi Lessons in Localization series highlights the largest, the most innovative, the up-and-coming, and the most successful globalization programs in the world.

In today's Lesson in Localization, we look at how KAYAK does localization.

A lesson by Martin Hickey.

Since 2004, KAYAK has been revolutionizing the travel industry. As a metasearch, KAYAK searches other sites to show travelers the information they need to make confident travel decisions. Each year KAYAK processes billions of queries for travel information, helping travelers worldwide find the right flights, hotels, rental cars, and vacation packages.

As part of Booking Holdings, KAYAK and OpenTable share a common leadership and today is a global company with over 2,000 employees across 22 offices. KAYAK manages a portfolio of travel brands, incl. KAYAK, SWOODOO, checkfelix, momondo, Cheapflights, Mundi and HotelsCombined.

For this Lesson in Localization, Nimdzi spoke with Director of Localization, Andrea Guisado Muñoz.

The highly adaptable and tech-savvy team takes a hands-on approach that gives way to a very efficiently run localization engine.

Great awareness of localization within the organization allows for greater optimization of the localization process.

Visibility of content is a key factor in deciding how it is handled.
