Healthcare Interpreting: Impact on Lengths of Stay and Readmission Rate

Studies have shown that providing professional interpreting services in hospitals can decrease lengths of stay and reduce readmission rates of patients with limited English proficiency (LEP).

In a three-year study, published by the US National Library of Medicine, researchers concluded that:

  • LEP patients who did not receive professional interpreting services had an increase in their length of stay of between 0.75 and 1.47 days:
