Key Business Challenges:
Carsten Kneip, Director of Localization with Smartsheet, has a Nimdzi Insights membership that includes access to research/content/eLearning and quarterly workshops. Through this membership, he was put in communication with Nimdzi consultant, Miguel Sepulveda. Carsten Kneip had a pretty clear idea of what he needed help with, writing for international audiences. Carsten presented that he wanted to help the writing teams at Smartsheet to understand how writing can impact localization quality. Smartsheet is on the road to creating content for international audiences so this topic is a priority for a successful campaign. There’s a lack of awareness on how to best write for global audiences. Most of the time content developers are very US-centric in their thinking and do not write with localization in mind, which can confuse the translators.
The workshop provided the content team at Smartsheet with the tools to improve localization in their writing. Carsten Kneip and the team were given access to the slide deck and recording of the masterclass. These tools will help guide the localization team at Smartsheet on their journey to understand international audiences.
“Just a quick note to thank you for your fantastic workshop! I can tell you, people can't stop raving about what you taught today! Your style along with the high-quality materials are simply awesome. It was so great to have 50+ folks in the live audience. I can't wait to share the recording and the deck with an ever wider audience. International is a top priority for Smartsheet this year. I'm so glad you were able to help me set this journey up for success. Can't wait for the next workshop.”
Carsten Kneip, Smartsheet Director of LocalizationSolution:
It was determined that a 2.5-hour workshop delivered by Nimdzi would be the best step moving forward. The workshop had a total of 65 attendees between Smartsheet and vendors which led the workshop to be presented as a masterclass. A masterclass is a great solution in this situation because it allows attendees to ask questions as they arise. The goal is to make the content and web producers (writing teams) aware of how their writing affects localization and how quality at the source can lead to more streamlined and higher quality localization downstream. Nimdzi Consultant Miguel Sepulveda has decades of experience working on content writing, delivering workshops and masterclasses, helping Nimdzi Insights clients understand the intersection of language and writing.
